Dr. Amalia Prandekou
Dr. Amalia Prandekou is a Research Associate at the Laboratory of Marine Geology and Physical Oceanography (Oceanus-Lab), Department of Geology, University of Patras. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology (2015) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Oceanography (2017) from the University of Patras. In 2025, she completed her Ph.D. thesis at the same department, funded by a three-year scholarship from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI).
Her scientific expertise lies primarily in micropaleontology, with a major focus on benthic and planktonic foraminifera and their application in paleoenvironmental and paleoceanographic reconstructions, particularly in low-oxygen marine settings. Her Ph.D. thesis, entitled “Study of marine sedimentary deposits in hypoxic/anoxic environment of Amvrakikos Gulf”, focused on the reconstruction of sedimentary processes and environmental evolution under persistent hypoxic to anoxic bottom-water conditions in a semi-enclosed marine basin, based on an integrated sedimentological and micropaleontological approach.
She has additional experience in elemental geochemistry, grain-size analysis, stable isotope analysis and organic petrology (maceral analysis). Finally, she is familiar with sediment core sampling and the acquisition and interpretation of marine geophysical data.
